As the country commemorated the 154th anniversary of the arrival of Indians as indentured labourers on 16 November, locals of Indian origin celebrated their roles and contributions in South Africa’s transition to democracy, in government, business and developing their communities. GOPIO Zululand Chapter President, Ishwar Ramlutchman said a non-racial and democratic society cannot be built without educating the people in the true history of all segments of the South African population, and their contributions to their common homeland.
